Para este nuevo proyecto, Gustavo Madrid se propuso un nuevo desafío: crear un álbum de remixes. En lugar de elegir canciones aisladas de su discografía y siguiendo el ejemplo de otros artistas que luego de publicar un álbum producen otro en el que presentan un nuevo punto de vista sobre las mismas canciones, decidió que el punto de partida de este proyecto sería un álbum completo.
El álbum que ofrecía mayores posibilidades para retrabajar sus canciones era SIDE LANE. Grabado enteramente usando la computadora. A cada instrumento se le había asignado una pista independiente. Se le abría un enorme abanico al poder procesar cada uno de sus sonidos de manera aislada.
Por otro lado, siendo un álbum en el que originalmente no había utilizado sonidos de percusión, se imaginó que podría comenzar por cubrir esos “baches” con sampleos y loops de batería extraídos de su vasta colección de discos de jazz. Además agregó algunos arreglos de teclados y sonidos varios que encontró pertinentes al espíritu del álbum.
Finalmente, 13 de las 15 canciones originales fueron reformuladas. Acortándolas, buscando nuevos matices y climas diferentes a los que había logrado en las versiones originales.

Ambos proyectos son complementarios por surgir de de la misma materia prima. Sin embargo son al mismo tiempo independientes pues cada uno apunta a sensaciones diferentes ofreciendo giros inesperados provenientes de aquellas sonoridades originales.

DESOLATED SWAMPY PATHS
LOOKING FOR UNLIKELY ENCOUNTERS

For this new project, Gustavo Madrid took on a new challenge: create a remix album. Instead of choosing isolated songs from his discography, he decided to produce a companion album for a previously published one and change as he could the concept of its songs.
The album that offered more possibilities on reworking the songs was Side Lane. It has been entirely recorded using a computer, each instrument was isolated and assigned to a sole track, sounds and arrangements could be manipulated individually.
As it was an album where there was not a single percussion track nor other instrument than guitars, he imagined he could start by filling those gaps with drum loops and samples taken from his vast Jazz record collection, keyboard arrangements and found sounds that matched the spirit of the project.
Finally, 13 of the 15 songs on Side Lane were remixed and redirected. They were shortened looking for new nuances and distinct atmospheres from the original versions.
Both projects are complementary as they came out of the same source material. Even Though they stand alone independently because each one of them aims different sensations offering unexpected turns arising from the original sounds.
