about

ARABIC RHYTHM PLAY OF BALANCED
PRIMARY ROUGHNESS

This EP puts together the first songs that Gustavo Madrid wrote in Spanish. His friends and colleagues would have preferred that he continued writing in English; that´s the reason why he took advantage of their absence, as they were all out of town, to devote himself to the task of recording the four tracks included on “Cuenta”. It was an intense week, he assures.
He made use of everything that was at hand: a big plastic bottle, a big metal spring, a metallic sheet, a multilayered wooden board, a Spanish version of Philip K. Dick´s novel “The Father Thing”, a ceramics ashtray, a battery powered blender, an e-bow powered by a 9-volt battery, a chromed slide, a borrowed bass guitar, a confiscated electric organ, two electric guitars, a Macintosh G3 PowerPC, a Sony A8 digital audio tape recorder, a pair of blank tapes and his own voice.
He edited loops on his computer. He avoided programming sequencers or drum machines. He scrapped, hit, shook up. He used some distortion. He whispered. He sang spontaneously. He recorded without prejudices.

about

Gustavo Madrid Buenos Aires, Argentina

On his lyrics he doesn´t want to tell stories; he leaves that to a short story or to a novel.. For his songs, he prefers sentences that act like lashes, images, ideas; that are musical, without a complete or obvious sense and, if it´s possible, the ones that can awaken questions to be left unanswered. ... more
